Hair and Scalp Care Tips

Is your scalp impairing your hair? If you are desperate for stronger and healthier hair, better not neglect your scalp no more. Despite what scalp and hair type you have, certain hair care tips are universal. You may feel you’ve tried everything to relieve your hair loss problem, as well as other hair problems, and are still unhappy. That is why here at AEP we feel the basics of scalp and hair care are important to understand and we are passionate about sharing this information and helping to transform your hair.

SCALP AND HAIR CARE TIP #1: COMB BEFORE SHOWERING

Time is precious, so to save yourself time you may take a shower and quickly shampoo your hair immediately. You could actually be ineffectively washing your hair by doing so--because, without combing first, some dirt-like dead skin cells may be stubbornly sticking to your scalp and hair. To make every shower, scrub, and shampoo really count, we highly recommend combing your hair prior to jumping in, as this will release the stubborn dirt from the surface of your scalp and hair and can be easily washed off. Give your scalp and hair the thorough cleanse you deserve!

SCALP AND HAIR TIP #2: WASH WITH LUKEWARM WATER

A steaming hot shower may be relaxing; however, it is actually not healthy for your scalp and hair. Why? This is because scalding hot water viciously stimulates the scalp by damaging the natural sebum, which breaks the protective barrier on the scalp. As a result, the hair is damaged and dandruff may occur. Wash your hair with lukewarm water--between 87.8-100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (similar to human body temperature) in order to protect your hair.

SCALP AND HAIR TIPS #3: MESSAGE WITH FINGERS

Both your scalp and hair deserve a massage. It is common to use the fingernails to scratch the scalp while massaging--it may even relieve itchiness. Although it might feel pleasant, if done long-term scratching with the fingernails can cause damage to the scalp, as germs and bacteria can easily attach to the nails and be passed onto the scalp. The fingertips are smooth and clean; therefore, it is strongly advised to massage your scalp with the fingertips only.

SCALP AND HAIR TIP #4: DRY HAIR RIGHT AFTER SHOWERING

Facial care is most often the first thing one does after showering--wrapping hair in a towel while applying facial creams. At AEP we highly suggest drying your scalp and hair first! This is because a wet scalp and hair surface provides an environment for germs to survive and breed. In order to avoid this issue, set your hairdryer to a temperature similar to the human body and thoroughly blow-dry your hair promptly.
